Weighing in on Popular Debates–InDesign vs Quark
I’m probably not the best qualified to weigh in on this debate to a great degree. I’ve used InDesign since version 1 and was a PageMaker user prior to that. However, I have opened and printed Quark documents from Quark 4.1, and I have to say I have never seen a clunkier program. Maybe I’m just used to a different workflow, but all the boxes and frames were annoying as all get out. From the comments that I have seen from Quark users in the Adobe User to User forums, I’m all the more grateful that I’ve never had to be productive in that program. Let me rephrase: I doubt I could have ever been productive in that program. Needless to say, I’m all for InDesign. Yes, it has lots of room for improvement–I don’t think any software can (or should) claim perfection–but InDesign is highly efficient and stimulates creativity. I await with great anticipation Adobe’s big announcement (possibly the ship date for CS3) next week.

I saw in a zoo the other day that Quark Xpress is on the endangered species list, with maybe a handful of supporters still alive.
